SAR/Wilderness Medical Kits

Time:  Friday, May 29, 2009 3:30-5 pm
                   
DESCRIPTION OF PRESENTATION:    What is really needed?  Did you need that 150 pound kit?  Dr. Smith and Leo Lloyd RN/EMT-P are here to help you make those important decisions.  This will be a show and tell class.  Equipment and bags will be available to look at and discuss.

This workshop is geared toward helping participants design their own medical kits.  The basic principles of medical kit preparation will be discussed (such as size of group, terrain, remoteness of area, skill level of providers, etc.).  A search and rescue medical kits that are currently being used by Dr. Smith and Leo Loyd RN/EMT-P will serve as the center of discussion.  There will be a hands-on portion to expose students to new EMS and other medical technologies that can be taken to SAR/wilderness settings.

TARGET AUDIENCE: General (First Responder to ALS)

    1) Discuss medical kits for Search and Rescue (SAR) and Wilderness settings.
    2) Role of medical care in SAR and other Wilderness settings.
    3) What is my kit?
